Connecticut Children’s Medical Center to Build Outpatient Cancer, Blood Disorders Center

Connecticut Children’s Medical Center in Hartford will build a new, $5 million outpatient center for cancer and blood disorders in order to accommodate the hospital’s growing volume for these services, according to a report in the Hartford Courant.

The Clinical Care Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders will be located in 8,000 square-feet on the hospital’s fifth floor and will feature additional exam rooms, private infusion and treatment rooms, a blood laboratory, expanded waiting areas, a family consultation room, a playroom and a patient and family resource library, according to the report.

The hospital expects the center to be funded mostly through philanthropy, including private campaigns and federal funds, according to the report. Construction is scheduled to begin in Jan. 2011, with completion targeted for late 2011.
