Lawmakers are currently considering a 2011 budget that includes $2.7 billion in cuts to the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System and the Arizona Department of Health Services. The cuts would also result in the loss of an additional $2 billion in federal Medicaid matching funds to the state, according to the release.
The AzHHA is urging lawmakers to oppose the budget, which the association says could “cripple” the state’s economy, according to the release. The AzHHA cites a study by the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University that found that the proposed cuts would result in a loss of 42,000 jobs, further worsening the state’s economy.
