A total of 3,004 people have reported symptoms in the DRC since Aug. 1, 2018, and 2,899 have tested positive for Ebola, Congolese health officials said. There have also been 2,006 deaths, of which 1,901 were confirmed cases of Ebola. The outbreak is the second largest and the second deadliest in history.
The average weekly number of new cases in the DRC has decreased in recent weeks, but there has also been an increase in the number of affected areas. Ebola cases were identified in South Kivu and in a remote village in North Kivu for the first time this past month.
