Pinterest combats vaccine misinformation with new search feature

Pinterest updated its platform to only feature verified information from health agencies and medical associations in search results for vaccine-related words, the company announced Aug. 28.

Last year, Pinterest stopped showing these search results entirely to help combat vaccine misinformation. Now, these searches will turn up vaccine content from the CDC, American Academy of Pediatrics and World Health Organization, among other groups.

"We're taking this approach because we believe that showing vaccine misinformation alongside resources from public health experts isn't responsible," Ifeoma Uzoma, public policy and social impact manager at Pinterest, said in a statement on the company's website. "As we continue to tackle health misinformation, we remove it and the accounts that spread it from our service."
