Pennsylvania Hospitals Reduce Infection Rates 3.1% From 2010-2011

In 2011, the overall rate of healthcare-associated infections in Pennsylvania hospitals decreased 3.1 percent from 2010 and 6.3 percent from 2009, according to a Pennsylvania Department of Health report.

The report includes statewide infection rates for catheter-associated urinary tract infections, central line-associated blood stream infections and surgical site infections.


Key data points include the following:

•    In 2011, the rate of CAUTIs decreased 9.4 percent from 2010 and 21.3 percent from 2009.
•    In 2011, the rate of CLABSIs decreased 4.3 percent from 2010 and 27.6 percent from 2009.
•    In 2010, the rate of SSIs decreased 5.9 percent from 2010.
