Patient Safety Tool: CUSP Family Engagement Toolkit

The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality offers free resources on maximizing communicative potential among patients, families and clinicians through the Comprehensive Unit-based Safety Program.

The Patient and Family Engagement module of the CUSP toolkit details the role of the patient advisor in championing patient and family views, tips on working with patient safety advisors, tools for communication improvement among patients, families and clinicians and a guide on communicating bad news to family members. Tools in the module include a slide presentation, facilitator notes and video segments.
