Chicago-based Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital has established an advanced leukemia clinical and research program to expand access to clinical trials and novel therapies for patients in the region.
The Cal’s Angels Advanced Leukemia Clinical and Research Program will offer access to new therapies and early-phase clinical trials. Additionally, it will support the advancement of translational research to identify new drug targets and combat resistance mechanisms in aggressive forms of the disease, according to an Oct. 27 news release.
Under the program, patients with high-risk, relapsed or refractory leukemia will have their cases reviewed by multidisciplinary tumor boards to develop individualized treatment plans. The initiative is supported by a $4 million gift from Cal’s Angels, a pediatric cancer foundation.
It is the first program of its kind in Chicago and one of 6 in the U.S.
