Columbus-based OhioHealth has launched a kidney transplant program at its Riverside Methodist Hospital, the system’s largest hospital, with 1,059 beds.
The nonprofit system announced the program July 8. OhioHealth said the new teaching hospital’s program offers continuity, as it keeps every phase of the transplant journey inside one health system to reduce handoffs across clinicians, according to a news release.
Patients in evaluation are managed by a multidisciplinary team that includes transplant surgeons, transplant nephrologists, advanced practice providers, transplant coordinators, pharmacists, dietitians, social workers and financial counselors, who together build individualized care plans.
“Receiving a kidney transplant is one of the most significant moments in a patient’s life, and our responsibility extends far beyond the operating room,” Hannah Kerr, MD, a transplant surgeon at OhioHealth, said in the release.
