The push by Ohio hospitals, such as Kettering Health Network, stems from a growing body of literature that suggests advanced nursing training leads to improved patient outcomes, such as fewer complications and shorter length of stay, according to the report.
Kettering Health Network, for example, requires “newer” nurses to obtain a bachelor’s degree within five years in order to keep their nursing positions. Ohio lawmakers are following suit, as a committee is discussing the possibility of mandating all nurses to obtain a bachelor’s degree within 10 years.
