A CDC fact sheet shows a $432 million requested budget for emerging and zoonotic infectious diseases — a $70 million increase from the fiscal year 2012 budget. The president’s requested budget for CDC’s emerging and zoonotic infectious diseases department includes the following:
• $278 million for core infectious diseases
• $49 million for food safety
• $40 million for the Advanced Molecular Detection and Response to Infectious Disease Outbreaks initiative
• $33 million for quarantine and migration
• $32 million for the National Healthcare Safety Network, a reporting system for healthcare-associated infections — an increase of $12 million from FY 2012
