Vermont hospital training staff to be nurses

Northwestern Medical Center in St. Albans, Vt., created an employee-to-nurse pipeline to ease its nurse shortage, ABC affiliate WCAX reported Oct. 24.

The program allows staff members to work while taking courses at a local school. The first cohort had six students who work as medical assistants, ER techs or food service providers. 

Northwestern Medical Center is one of three hospitals in the state receiving part of a $9 million to fund the program.
