In a 162-page document, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing and the American Organization for Nursing Leadership have shared a blueprint for developing successful academic-practice partnerships.
The Academic-Practice Partnership Playbook is written for chief nursing executives, nursing school deans and other leaders interested in designing and launching effective, sustainable collaborations. It details how to create “partnerships that expand nursing school capacity, improve the practice readiness of new nurses and build a sustainable nursing workforce.”
The playbook is centered on a unified framework from AACN and AONL on nursing education, according to a Dec. 2 news release. The framework includes five tenets:
1. Transforming healthcare through human-centered care
2. Moving to competency-based nursing education
3. Sustaining the supply of highly educated nurses
4. Leading innovation
5. Advancing nursing science
The resource includes case studies, financial pro formas and role descriptions. It “covers all stages of forming a productive relationship — from identifying shared goals and expectations to drafting formal agreements and tracking outcomes.”
