Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has partnered with Northeastern University to enhance training for the next generation of oncology nurses.
Under the new program, some nurse scientists at Dana-Farber will become faculty members at Northeastern, the Boston-based institutions said in a joint Sept. 25 news release. The effort marks a first-of-a-kind program where nurse scientists will bring their research and clinical expertise directly into classrooms.
Oncology nursing curriculum will be integrated throughout undergraduate, graduate, PhD, and clinical doctorate programs. Traditionally, nurses receive specialized training post-graduation in hospital programs. The shift aims to ensure nurses are better prepared to care for cancer patients upon graduation and comes as incidence rates rise.
“We are preparing clinicians who arrive at the bedside with both specialized knowledge and true clinical readiness, exemplifying our common vision to forge a path toward groundbreaking research and patient care,” Benjamin Ebert, MD, Dana-Farber’s president and CEO, said in the release.
