Researchers surveyed more than 9,000 nurses at 79 acute-care hospitals in Sweden.
In addition to perception of resources improving assessment of safety culture, nurses with direct involvement in patient care and good relationships with other employees in their workplaces also corresponded with better patient safety culture ratings. Work experience did not influence patient safety assessments.
The study concludes perception of safety culture may be more complex than nurse to patient staffing ratios.
