Cal/OSHA determined the hospital had not put into place adequate policies to keep workers safe in connection with two separate incidents at the hospital. In the first, a man armed with a gun took an employee hostage in the ER. He later surrendered. In the second, nurses reported feeling unsafe after treating a gunshot victim who was dropped off outside the front of the hospital, instead of the ER, according to the report.
The hospital plans to appeal the violations and blames ongoing union negotiations for the citations, according to the report. Nurses at the hospital, represented by the California Nurses Association, held a 3-day strike at the hospital last fall.
