Las Vegas-based Montevista Hospital will lose CMS funding Aug. 14 after failing to make the necessary changes to resolve its “immediate jeopardy” status, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

CMS first discovered care deficiencies at the hospital in January. When regulators returned for a follow-up visit in June, they found several deficiencies were not resolved. Health officials discovered several instances of patients escaping or sharing medications with other patients.

Medicaid and Medicare reimbursements for patients admitted to the 202-bed psychiatric hospital before Aug. 14 will continue for 30 days. State regulators also banned the hospital from accepting new patients July 25 and issued $19,000 in fines.

Montevista Hospital said it has made “significant operations changes” since being cited by CMS, including creating new processes and appointing a new leadership team.

“We have implemented a detailed plan of correction and look forward to demonstrating to CMS that we are in full compliance with the conditions of participation,” the hospital said in a statement cited by the Review-Journal.

Montevista Hospital can reapply for federal reinstatement after regulators complete on-site investigations.
