The Patient Advocate Foundation and the Patient Access Network Foundation merged March 3, creating the nation’s largest portfolio of financial assistance programs for low- and middle-income patients.
Before combining, the two organizations were the two biggest patient-assistance charities in the U.S., The Wall Street Journal reported. Together, they offer 130 disease-specific financial assistance funds for chronic and rare conditions, according to a news release.
“The merger represents the first of its scale among nonprofit charities,” the release said.
In 2025, the two foundations collectively saw a 15% increase in financial assistance enrollments.
The two organizations have also collectively granted more than $7 billion in financial assistance, helped 3.8 million patients access care and provided personalized case management to more than 350,000 patients, according to the release.
The Patient Advocate Foundation was founded in 1996 and the PAN Foundation was founded in 2004.
