The alleged assailant was a 22-year-old man who attacked staff and visitors at the center, leaving four people wounded and Ms. Sandidge dead. It is unclear what prompted the attack. The ASC is a freestanding, independent surgical center connected to Good Shepherd Medical Center by a skybridge. It includes eight surgical suites and two fluoroscopy suites for general surgery, otolaryngology, orthopedic, gynecological, gastroenterology and ophthalmology procedures.
Ms. Sandidge died while trying to protect her patients, according to the report.
