The CDC reorganized its National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, consolidating offices and renaming divisions and branches, according to a Sept. 9 Federal Register notice. The changes took effect Sept. 4.
Here are three things to know:
- The new division includes an Office of the Director and five branches: Virology and Laboratory Surveillance; Respiratory Virus Detection and Immunology; Surveillance, Epidemiology and Modeling; Public Health Interventions; and Emerging Viral Respiratory Threats.
- The division focuses on preventing and controlling seasonal, epidemic and pandemic respiratory viral diseases, including influenza and other respiratory viral diseases.
- Its responsibilities include monitoring respiratory disease patterns, supporting surveillance and response activities, characterizing viruses and developing prevention and intervention strategies.
