New pathogens and drug-resistant organisms, combined with an emphasis on reducing healthcare-associated infections, influence the need for hospitals to reevaluate gown purchasing decisions to optimize patient and staff safety, as well as cost effectiveness. Choosing a surgical gown for each procedure has never been more important for three reasons: 1) the rise of new pathogens and drug-resistant organisms (“super bugs”), 2) clinical emphasis on reducing HAIs and 3) renewed efforts by hospitals to improve patient and staff safety via quality initiatives.

In an upcoming webinar, Sandy Albright, BSN, RN, senior clinical consultant for Dublin, Ohio-based Cardinal Health, will discuss the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation’s (AAMI) surgical gown standards and highlight the four levels of barrier protection. Ms. Albright will discuss how understanding AAMI surgical gown standards can help providers select an appropriate level of barrier protection for each procedure.

Tune in to learn the three questions providers should ask when selecting a surgical gown, and discover how clinicians and materials management can work together to enhance safety and control costs through improved gown purchasing.

The webinar is scheduled from noon to 1 p.m. CT on June 6. To register, click here.
