The overall physician turnover rate continues to sit at 6.8 percent, the same level as in 2012, according to the survey. However, this rate is still considered high when compared to the turnover rate reported in 2009 of 5.9 percent.
To respond to the high physician turnover rate, medical groups have invested in new staffing and delivery models and built strategic teams, according to Donald Fisher, PhD, president and CEO of AMGA.
Notably, turnover rates among advanced practice clinicians like physician assistants and nurse practitioners sit at 9.4 percent, a decrease from 2012, when the turnover rate was 11.6 percent.
