The move is not simply a name change but a fundamental restructuring of its physician practice operations, according to the health system.
The new 100-physician organization will be physician-led and professionally managed. Its board of directors will have 14 physicians and three administrative leaders. There will also be a new five-member physician leadership team, two of whom will devote half their time to administrative duties.
In addition to Wellmont Medical Associates, the health system has partnered with the Wellmont CVA Heart Institute to form a separate entity of 40 physicians in an effort to develop a “premier cardiovascular organization in the region,” according to the release.
