Tennessee’s Wellmont Health Names Interim CEO

Kingsport, Tenn.-based Wellmont Health System has named Bob Burgin, a retired healthcare executive who served for more than two decades as president and CEO of Mission Hospitals in Asheville, N.C., as its interim CEO, according to a Wellmont Health news release.

Mr. Burgin will provide interim leadership for Wellmont Health as the organization conducts a national search for its next chief executive.

Mr. Burgin has been as a member of the Wellmont board of directors since July 2009. He replaces president and CEO Mike Snow, who will leave the system later this month to become chief operating officer of Amedisys.

Mr. Burgin previously served as chief operating officer of UNC Hospitals’ North Carolina Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill. He was also a captain in the Army Medical Service Corps.
