Dr. Witham said in the suit that he has lost “hundreds of thousands of dollars” and will be forced out of business if the hospital hires another oncologist, as he claims it is planning to do.
Some states, such as California and Illinois, prohibit public hospitals from employing physicians, but according to Dr. Witham’s lawyer, the issue is ignored in Washington. According to the report, private physicians have been concerned about the trend over the last 10 years of public hospitals employing physicians.
