A UPMC hospital in Lititz, Pa., is ending its family medicine residency program this summer, according to an update on its website.
The family medicine residency program at UPMC Lititz spanned three years and trained doctors in pediatrics, internal medicine, emergency medicine, women’s health, behavioral health, osteopathic principles and addiction medicine, according to its website.
A spokesperson told Becker’s that current family medicine residents at the 148-bed hospital have been moved to other UPMC residency programs. The program closure aims to “maximize the resources of the UPMC Graduate Medical Education program,” the spokesperson said.
Lititz and other UPMC hospitals in central Pennsylvania are recruiting for the upcoming academic year, the system said.
In 2024, three other Pennsylvania hospitals, including another UPMC hospital, shuttered their residency programs.
Pittsburgh-based UPMC did not answer Becker’s questions on the decision and will update this article should more information become available.
