UA College of Medicine in Phoenix under board of regents investigation

An exodus of executives and multiple accreditation issues has prompted an investigation of the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix by the Arizona Board of Regents, according to Arizona Public Media.

In June, the Arizona Medical Association called for an investigation of the medical school due to the abrupt departure of six leaders and four accreditation issues, one of which involved its relationship with Phoenix-based Banner Health. A key leader who left is Dean Stuart Flynn, MD, who departed in April for the deanship at a new medical school in Texas. Five others also departed, four of whom are heading to Dr. Flynn’s new school.

In February, the Liaison Committee on Medical Education put UA College of Medicine-Phoenix on “provisional” accreditation status.

The board of regents will conduct meetings this week to further probe the issue.
