Earlier this year, the state requested a feasibility study be conducted to determine the necessity and level of interest in the potential creation of a medical school.
University of Houston President and Chancellor Renu Khator, PhD, said during an annual address to the campus community Wednesday the board aims to discuss the results of the study during their November meeting.
If the board accepts the study and votes to move forward on the project, the university will begin the formal process to make the potential medical school a reality, according to the report.
“This [medical school] initiative will not only fill a void in Texas by serving currently underserved communities, but it will also strengthen teaching and research throughout the university, particularly in health-related fields,” Dr. Khator said.
