Close to 40 percent of healthcare facility administrators and physicians say the reason their facility is not moving towards an accountable care organization is physician and staffing alignment, according to a survey by AMN Healthcare.
The survey is based on the responses of 882 healthcare facility administrators and physicians nationwide from May 2011. After physician and staff alignment, 31.4 percent of respondents attributed the delay in ACO formation to a lack of capital and 26.2 percent cited a lack of integrated IT systems.
Among those respondents who are moving towards the ACO model, 42 percent still cited physician and staffing alignment as their primary obstacle. Respondents were not entirely on board with ACO benefits, either: only 11 percent said they strongly agree ACOs are likely to deliver cost and quality benefits over time while 48 percent said they somewhat agree and 22 percent said they somewhat disagree.
