The median annual salary for internal-medicine hospitalists seeing adult patients was $220,144 in FY10, an increase of 2.4 percent from FY09. Pediatric hospitalists had a median annual salary of $171,617 in FY10, an increase of 7 percent.
Work RVUs increased 1.8 percent for internal-medicine hospitalists and .02 percent for pediatric hospitalists. Leslie Flores, MHA, senior advisor for practice management at SHM, said, “What I get out of this is both compensation and productivity appear to be leveling off somewhat. We’re not seeing the big increases from year to year we have seen historically,” according to the report.
