Kevin Behrns, MD, dean of the medical school and vice president for medical affairs, announced the appointments in an email Tuesday. The positions are the director of continuous quality improvement, who will monitor the medical school’s efforts to improve, and the director of professional oversight, who will serve as a “neutral and impartial” investigator in instances of “unprofessional behavior between colleagues,” according to the report.
The two positions were part of the remediation plan the medical school crafted after the Liaison Committee on Medical Education placed the school on academic probation last February, citing gaps in curriculum and inadequate policies, the report states.
The medical school remains accredited at this time. However, if the university fails to fix the at least 20 deficiencies outlined by the LCME, the organization may withdraw the school’s accreditation.
