A Montana radiologist has won a three-year legal battle with St. James Healthcare, the hospital system he said illegally breached his contract by revoking his hospital privileges, according to a DOTmed report.

Jesse Cole, MD, will receive a $4 million settlement. He sued the Butte, Mont.-based hospital in Feb. 2007 after the hospital allegedly gave him and two other radiologists three hours notice to leave. The hospital had recently reached an agreement to exclusively work with radiologists from a Boston service.

Dr. Cole also alleged the hospital hurt his reputation by suing him in Nov. 2006 for interfering with negotiations with physicians. Neither party admitted wrongdoing in the settlement.
