The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine has put up billboard ads near the hospital, known for its cardiac unit, which read, “Clogged Arteries? Your Heart’s Not Lovin’ the Fatty Fast Food,” according to the report.
The ads, though they do not directly name the fast food chain or the hospital, are targeting a McDonald’s located inside Grady Memorial’s parking garage that is nearing the end of its lease, according to the report. Neil Cooper, MD, told WGCL the group kept the ads generic because, “[w]e know that there’s probably 17-20 other hospitals around the country that have similar situations as Grady Hospital.”
Though some residents interviewed by the TV station did not make the connection between the billboard and Grady Memorial, most did, and sided with the physicians, according to the report.
Officials from the hospital told the news station they are open minded as to what goes in the current McDonald’s location, and no decision has been made, according to the report.
