The attorney general filed a consumer protection lawsuit this week in a Kansas district court against Joel Erskin, part owner and operator of Renovo Medical and University Medical in Garden City. The judge issued a temporary restraining order on Mr. Erskin, banning him from operating in Kansas until the case is settled.

The lawsuit alleges Mr. Erskin wore a nametag identifying himself as “Dr. Joel Erskin” while working at Renovo Medical and University Medical, and a patient said he introduced himself as “Dr. Erskin,” according to court documents. It also alleges Mr. Erskin was practicing without supervision by a physician as required by law.

The lawsuit follows an investigation conducted by federal authorities and the attorney general’s office, and it seeks civil penalties and investigative fees.
