NYC Health + Hospitals, an 11-hospital system based in New York City, has secured federal funding for 75 new positions in its Graduate Medical Education programs, according to a Jan. 26 news release.
To address the nation’s worsening shortage of physicians, Congress authorized new GME residency positions in 2021. The new GME positions at NYC Health + Hospitals are part of the fourth round of CMS’ allocation of hundreds of federally funded spots.
“In 2025, NYC Health + Hospitals emerged as the most successful healthcare system in the country, securing 75 available positions and further establishing its leadership in national medical workforce development,” according to the release.
The health system will distribute the additional full-time equivalent GME positions across seven of its hospitals.
