Under the bill, physicians would be exempt from income tax for a maximum of 10 years if they both reside and practice in an area with a critical physician shortage.
The purpose of the legislation is to attract newly licensed and qualified physicians — those who have been licensed to practice for less than one year — to practice in areas that need physicians most.
The bill, which is backed by Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant, will now head to the state Senate.
