Details as to why the talks ended were not disclosed; however, officials from MetroWest said in a memo to staff that it had become clear that there were differences between the two sides regarding the structure of an affiliation.
Both MetroWest and Beth Israel said in the report that they planned on continuing several collaborations with each other. Currently, both hospitals have ongoing service line collaborations in areas such as cardiology, radiation oncology and vascular surgery.
MetroWest had originally begun discussions with Beth Israel six months ago, when Wellesley Hospital proposed an outpatient surgical and screening center in Framingham that would increase competition. Plans have since been withdrawn.
