Officials say Indiana University Health Ball Memorial Hospital’s improved financial performance is a direct result of the end of a “10-year war” with local physicians, according to a Star Press report.
Michael Haley, CEO of the Muncie, Ind., hospital, assumed his position in 2007 and made a point to improve relations with physicians. For the 10 years leading up to Mr. Haley’s appointment, physicians were “soured on their dealings with hospital administrators” and would refer patients to other hospitals, according to the report.
Through infusing money into the local healthcare scene and reaching out to physicians, relations have improved and the hospital has acquired several physician practices. Muncie Surgical Associates, Associates in Surgery and several oncology physicians who had been part of Medical Consultants have joined IU Health Ball Memorial in recent months.
