The non-profit DIO was founded in 1972 by ophthalmologists and the local business community in an effort to seek solutions for the visually impaired through research.
“Bringing our organizations together will give us greater ability to impact visual science through research,” Paul Edwards, MD, chair of ophthalmology at Henry Ford, said in the release. “It also means we’ll be able to expand DIO support services for the visually impaired and blind, in collaboration with the Henry Ford Center for Visual Rehabilitation and Research.”
Henry Ford’s ophthalmology department has 12 locations throughout southeast Michigan and cares for more than 55,000 patients each year.
