Employed Physicians at New York City Hospital Unionize

Employed physicians at New York City Health and Hospitals Corp.’s Coney Island Hospital voted to join Doctors Council SEIU, part of the Service Employees International Union, according to a SEIU news release.

The 139 full-time physicians are employed by University Group Medical Associates, an affiliate of the public hospital system.

“With healthcare being targeted for cuts across the country and with many hospitals struggling or failing, doctors need to stand together more than ever and advocate for resources and funding for staffing and patient services,” Barry Liebowitz, MD, president of Doctors Council SEIU, said in the release.
