Here are five things to know about Dr. Bertozzi.
1. Dr. Bertozzi was appointed dean in 2013. He previously served as the director of HIV for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Global Health program.
2. While he plans to step down as dean, Dr. Bertozzi will continue in his position as a professor of health policy and management at the public health school, a spokesperson for the school told The Daily Californian.
3. During his time as dean, Dr. Bertozzi steered the school through its re-accreditation process with the Council on Education for Public Health.
4. He was also instrumental in the development of the Fung Fellowship for Wellness and Technology Innovations with the UC Berkeley College of Engineering, and started a collaboration between the public health school and the Berkeley Food Institute, according to the report.
5. Dr. Bertozzi will remain in his position until an interim dean has been selected.
