It’s part of a PPACA provision that awards physicians who provide quality care at lower costs for Medicare patients and reduces reimbursement to physicians who provide lower quality and higher-cost care.
The Physician Value-Based Payment Modifier is a Medicare payment system that won’t take effect until 2015 — but CMS will base 2015 payments on previous data. For most physicians, the tracking period will begin January 2013.
