The system wants to name department chiefs for obstetrics/gynecology, surgery, radiation oncology, emergency medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry and neurology by 2013. With the addition of the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, which opened in August, the three-hospital system is transitioning to an academic medical center model with hospitals more aligned, according to sources cited in the report.
Some physicians said the system wants physician leaders who “teach, publish and do research,” with less criteria on the clinical side, according to the report. One physician said Beaumont wants a breed of leaders who can “take the departments to the next level with healthcare reform, value-based payments and put those structures in place that will allow the departments to grow even more,” according to the report.
