More than 300 hospitals participated in an ACC pilot program in which they voluntarily publicly report their rates of unplanned 30-day readmissions following a PCI procedure on Hospital Compare. The measure, which was developed through a partnership with Yale New Haven Health Services Corp.’s Center for Outcomes Research and Evaluation and CMS, is different from other readmission measures because it uses clinical information from the ACC’s National Cardiovascular Data Registry to adjust for patients’ clinical risk, according to the release.
Hospitals in the pilot reported unplanned readmissions within 30 days of discharge after a PCI procedure to ACC’s NCDR CathPCI Registry for the period Jan. 1, 2010 through Nov. 30, 2011. Hospitals were then designated as having rates better, no different or worse than the CathPCI Registry rate, which was 11.9 percent.
