Millions of dollars for programs received non-recurring funding and were excluded from the Senate’s most recent budget. Tobacco cessation programs stand to lose $17 million, while several million dollars are expected to be lost in hospital reimbursements and local health and wellness initiatives for Medicaid beneficiaries, according to the report.
“If uninsured patients cannot get medications from safety-net providers, they’ll go to the emergency department to seek short-term supplies,” said John Carr, a lobbyist for the North Carolina Association of Free Clinics, in the report.
