NY Awards $500k in Grants to Physicians to Help Underserved Communities

The New York State Department of Health has awarded grants totaling up to $500,000 to five healthcare providers who will deliver healthcare in underserved communities over the next two years.

The Doctors Across New York Program awards funding to recruit and retain physicians in underserved areas through salary enhancements, sign-on bonuses, loan repayment and other direct payments to physicians. Physicians participating in Doctors Across New York make a multi-year service commitment to practice in an underserved area in the state.

The grants were awarded to Ellis Hospital in Schenectady for family medicine; Nathan Littauer Hospital Association in Gloversville for urology; Alseny Balde, MD, in the Bronx for family medicine; FLH Medical in Geneva for psychiatry; and Geneva General Hospital for general surgery.
