Dr. Nguyen recently performed two days of free HBV screenings on nearly 400 people, most of whom were born in Vietnam. Two more days of free screenings are planned for April 28-29.
Asian and Pacific Islanders make up less than 5 percent of the total population in the United States, but account for more than 50 percent of Americans living with chronic Hepatitis B, according to CDC. Dr. Nguyen told WDSU that there are about 20,000-30,000 Vietnamese living in the New Orleans metro area.
