The Georgia resident who contracted the virus is “an elderly adult male with underlying health conditions,” said District Epidemiologist Jacqueline Jenkins. The area where the resident lives has been evaluated by an environmental health team, and a vector control specialist is collecting samples in search of mosquitoes carrying the virus.
Georgia usually has six to 10 cases of West Nile virus per year.
