Foreign national dies of meningitis in NY

An unidentified foreign national visiting relatives in Rockland County, N.Y., has died of bacterial meningitis, according to the Rockland County Department of Health.

The individual fell ill during his visit and was taken to an undisclosed area hospital.

Officials have identified individuals who came into direct contact with the patient. Said individuals have been prescribed post-exposure antibiotics. As of Monday evening, there were no additional cases or exposures reported in Rockland County. Health officials assert there is no risk of further infection to local residents.
