In late 2010, CMS completed a routine inspection at University Hospital and found the hospital was not in good keeping with infection control and housekeeping standards. CMS’ report included evidence of “residue and debris on sterile instruments in sterile surgical containers,” among other deficiencies.
The CMS report echoed an FDA inspection that took place at the hospital two years earlier.
After the 2010 CMS inspection, the hospital put together a corrective plan that was deemed “unacceptable” by the Department of Health. The plan was amended, and a March 30 visit found the hospital in compliance with regulations, according to the news report.
