First hospital light fixture to kill bacteria safely, continuously hits US market

Kenosha, Wis.-based Kenall Manufacturing has introduced Indigo-Clean, a light fixture that aims to reduce the risk of hospital associated infections by killing the bacteria they stem from.

The light fixture utilizes “continuous environmental disinfection” technology and has been shown to render a wide-range of microorganisms inactive, among them the bacteria responsible for C. diff and MRSA, reducing the risk of patients contracting infections.

The Indigo-Clean fixture outputs a high-intensity narrow spectrum light that produces a chemical reaction within the bacteria, killing them like bleach or a disinfectant might. Because it is still in the visible spectrum, it is safe for use in the presence of patients and staff.
